Music performance Hell!

Composer Boudewijn Tarenskeen recently found a very damaged score in his archives with songs in Renaissance style, also with texts from the 'Divina', which he once wrote for the theatre.

With difficulty he deciphered the remains and edited them into a performable whole, integrating the missing passages, tears and stains into the new score.

Partly inspired by the incomparable Javanese soprano Bernadeta Astari, a great talent whose roots he shares, he incorporated old Javanese music styles into the new score. Partly inspired by the incomparable Javanese soprano Bernadeta Astari, a great talent whose roots he shares, he incorporated old Javanese music styles into the new score. It is music that feverishly tries to 'remember' the original, and that gradually makes the audience a participant in the reconstruction of a manuscript that was thought to be lost.

The performance seeks a way to offer the genre 'recital' a richer perspective. Starting from a recital position, the singer close to her accompanist, she gradually detaches herself to finally end up far away from him, entering the domain of performance, where she resolutely distances herself from 'The Art of Song'. The result is an exciting interplay, a battle between the two interpreters, life and death, heaven and hell. As you gradually lose sight of what is up and what is down, the performance becomes more and more physical.
