Festive opening of the new Saturday market
On January 11, the Saturday market will be in this new format for the first time. Mayor Peter Heijkoop and the market entrepreneurs will jointly organize the festive opening in the morning.
The market in the city centre is an experience in itself! Of course you come here for the fresh fruit and vegetables, but also for the conviviality and the food. You can enjoy fresh fish, warm syrup waffles and mini pancakes here on the spot! You can also shop for a nice outfit and a colourful bunch of flowers. Every Saturday from 08:00 - 17:00 around the Nieuwe Rijn.

The municipality of Leiden and the market entrepreneurs have jointly agreed on a new layout for the Saturday market. With the new layout of the market, several large sales trucks have been moved from the Nieuwe Rijn to the Vismarkt. This move was necessary to ensure that the market meets the safety and accessibility requirements of the fire brigade. In addition, the 'followers', entrepreneurs who have been using other places in the market area for a longer period of time, have been granted a permanent permit. This means that these market entrepreneurs, who also play an important role in making the market lively and full-fledged, now also have a permanent location and the certainty that they can continue to do business on the market.
