Sunday 9 February

Vienen los Pajaros

In the middle of winter, music lovers can visit the Lokhorstkerk for a portion of Southern European warmth. On Sunday 9 February, Kamerkoor Akkoord will perform music by two Southern European composers: Tomas Luis de Victoria and Mikis Theodorakis.

The Spanish Renaissance composer De Victoria wrote music that seems to come from heaven. Agree sings his "Missa Ascendens Christus", a beautiful a cappella piece.
Of a completely different caliber is the Canto General by the 20th century Greek composer Theodorakis, based on a text by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. It is an indictment of oppression and a call for freedom, but also an ode to nature in South America. The chord consists of three parts of this large and complicated piece
voices under the direction of conductor Wim Dijkstra.
For a change, baritone Sinan Vural sings some songs by the Spanish composer Fernando Obradors.
It is a colorful collection of sounds from different centuries that also have one thing in common: you can hear the south in it. Andalusian, almost Moorish sounds on the one hand, Greek folk music on the other.
