Presentation of Herring and White Bread
On Wednesday 3 October it is time again for one of the most beautiful traditions of Leidens Ontzet: the presentation of Haring & Wittebrood! This event takes place from 07:30 to 09:30 at De Waag on the Aalmarkt.
True Leiden residents know that you haven't really celebrated October 3rd if you haven't picked up your herring and white bread first, no matter what time you went to bed the night before. Don't forget to bring your own bag or preferably a pan for the herring. If you don't have a bag, you can buy a cloth bag in the webshop , the Service Point, or one of the stalls. Want to join? Then register on Thursday 20 September at De Waag. On that third Thursday in September, the registration for both Haring & Wittebrood and the Grote Hutspot maaltijd traditionally takes place at De Waag. For many, this is traditionally the starting signal for the 3 October festivities.
