Concert Wagner transcriptions
There is a profusion of transcriptions of Wagner's greatest works, by Liszt, for example, who wrote them when Wagner's ink was barely dry, but also by all sorts of contemporary composers and performers.
The tradition of the opera fantasy, or variations on opera arias, is centuries old and serves both as a mark of respect for the original composer and as a means of promoting original music. Of course, Wagner needs no help in this area; his place in the canon of the greats is assured. However, there is something very special about experiencing Wagner operas on the piano - and Wagner himself encouraged this!
