Scent Experience
Why do flowers often smell so delightful? And why do some other plants smell rather awful? Come smell, observe, and discover at the Visitor Center of the Old Observatory. Suitable for young and old alike.
In the Scent Experience, the role of scent in nature takes center stage. Through examples such as some of our treasures like the Amorphophallus or "penis plant", European orchids, and Mediterranean herbs, you'll learn about the different functions of scent. For instance, certain plants that smell attractive to humans actually repel insects. After visiting the Scent Experience, you'll stroll through the gardens and greenhouses with a fresh perspective (and nose!). The Scent Experience is part of the Hortus' Year of Scent.
